826 Valencia is proud to announce our eighth weekend-long personal statement tutoring event, The Great San Francisco Personal Statement Weekend, will be held on October 15 and 16 at Mission High School. We invite all SFUSD high school seniors to register for a weekend of free college essay help.

Here’s how it works: during the weekend of October 15 and 16, 826 Valencia will have trained tutors on call to give one-on-one attention to students who are writing responses to the UC's Personal Insight Questions, Common Application essays, and scholarship essays. We're prepared to support students at all stages of the writing process, whether they’re just starting, almost finished, or somewhere in between. We’ll also have computers on hand for easy editing and brain food to keep them going.

Registering for the event as a student is easy and free—just follow this link for more information and to sign up. You can choose to attend one or two two-hour session(s) on either or both days. Advance registration is required so we can best prepare to meet each student's individual needs.

Save the date and spread the word! Last year we served 171 students over the weekend, and this year we are hoping to exceed 200. Seniors: Don't miss this opportunity to polish your personal statements, making them clear, powerful, meaningful, memorable, and effective at getting you into college!

All students have a right to take part in educational activities at school without paying a fee, deposit or other charge. An "educational activity" is an activity offered by a school or school district that is an integral part of a student's education, including, but not limited to, curricular and extracurricular activity. Schools cannot charge or request a deposit for materials, physical education or school uniforms, or graduation caps and gowns that are required to take part in an educational activity.

  • For more details about the rights of parents and guardians, please see Your Child's Education: Things You Should Know
  • For more details on what fees can and cannot be charged at school, please see Assembly Bill No. 1575
  • If you have been charged a fee for an educational activity, you can request a reimbursement and/or file a uniform complaint. If you are a parent and still have questions or concerns about fees, please contact the Office of Family Voice at 415-241-6150.
